Krotz Springs Quilt Show and Sale

I woke up this morning with a poem in my head.  That happens to me sometimes.  I try to write down the gist of the poem right away, before I lose parts, or all, of it.  You can find it here.  It's the first poem, entitled "Fear."  It's about life for a child born into a fear-filled circumstance.

I spent most of the afternoon visiting with the in-laws--and missed my guild meeting--then managed to find a few hours to work in the studio.  After sweeping and picking up, I decided to tackle the stash.  There's enough room for everything, provided everything is folded and neat!  Ah, but it's beginning to look like a really pretty stash.  I took care of half the shelves today, so hopefully tomorrow will see the finish and maybe even a few pictures.

Members of the Cotton Quilters Guild attended the Krotz Springs Quilt Show and Sale on Saturday.  It was fun to carpool with a couple of other quilters.  We laughed and talked and just had a great time.  Of course the quilt show was wonderful.  Many of the guild members sold quilt and other items.

Our guild was the guest guild and had been asked to bring quilts to show.  Not knowing how many to take with me, I took three quilts with the idea that I'd show the largest one if we were to show only one.  That worry was short-lived, when we arrived we were asked to show everything because there was enough time.

One of the things that I like about this show is that many of the members make a mystery quilt.  They all make the same quilt but choose the fabrics based on their preferences.  The quilts were displayed together so it was easy to see how different fabrics worked differently in the same pattern.  They also had a few different options in layouts although most used the same layout.  The first three photos are all quilts from the mystery challenge.

Of course there were other quilts at the show.  I was having problems with my camera batteries, so I had to limit the photos that I could take.  I decided to take photos of some of my favorite quilts.  This way I can come back to them and know that I like the quilts before opening the folder.

This sampler quilt is one from the Cotton Quilters presentation, although I don't know who the maker is.  In fact, I don't know any of the makers.  I should have written the names down, but I wasn't thinking!

Isn't this little house quilt just the cutest?  It's only half the quilt, by the way.  Space is so limited that they fold the quilts in half before hanging them, so we could see only half the quilt at a time.  I just loved this one, though.  Each house is the same and different at the same time.  The maker used the same pattern for each house, but embellished them differently.  With the blue cloud background I think I'd name it the sky village.

This quilt to the left is just stunning.  The wisteria flowers are machine embroidered!   She had two versions of this quilt: one with an off-white background and another with a black background.  I preferred this one because the lighter background just seemed brighter and happier.

The rest of these quilts were made by Cotton Quilters Guild members.  Pam S., with whom I spent most of my day on Saturday is the maker of the one on the right.  She used the X pattern and tools to make the design.

I love this pink with the doilies and vintage buttons.  It reminds me of my grandmother.  She didn't make doilies that I remember, but she had them all over her house.  I do remember the maker saying she used her grandmother's doilies and buttons and made the quilt for her grand-daughter.

Who wouldn't love this Cathedral Windows quilt?  Imagine the work!  It's so well put together.  I took a detailed photo so that I could see how it's made.  Not that I'm thinking of making one!  This is just too much work!

And that's my quilt show!  Hope you enjoyed.   Don't forget to take the poll.  It's just for fun, but I am interested in what you think and prefer.
