The last time I wrote about this twin-sized quilt for our granddaughter, I had just loaded it on the long-arm and begun the next step. It was fun trying to figure out how to quilt it. I wanted to work with the chevron motif and somehow have the chevron colors pop.
I think maybe I figured it out. I stitched in the ditch, then I created a channel about 1/2 inch away for a quick zigzag. It was easy to alternate the motifs in white and colored chevrons.
The white strips have two channels of zigzag with a blank center. The colored strips have blank sides with a motif in the center. In the large negative spaces that separate the large and small chevrons, I stitched a fun feather motif.

There's more to this quilt's story than just how it looks and how I quilted it: the high winds that we encountered on Tuesday while trying to photograph it.
Adding weights, holding it from the back, the sides, the bottom...nothing worked! But Richard certainly deserves kudos for trying. See the man at the bottom of the picture? That would be my darling husband trying to figure out how to get it to hang straight.
Things just kept getting worse,
and worse,
and worse!
And the quilt just flew and flapped like a flag on a pole.
Even Cotton got in on the fun. Then finally, the wind died down for two seconds, and I was able to get a photo or two. Only to realize that the quilt had been hanging upside down the entire time! (The red is meant to cover the pillows.)
A beautiful finish, Mary! I love the variation in the quilting that makes the chevron stand out. The picture outtakes are fun too :) Sometimes the wind just won't cooperate!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful quilting! Photographing quilts in the wind can be such a challenge - the photo with it flying out horizontally is amazing; I am glad the clips held!
ReplyDeleteYou can really see the quilting when it's blowing in the wind. So lovely!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely quilt - even upside down. Beautiful work with the quilting. Looks like you did have a bit of a time getting a photo in the wind - but that's part of the fun.
ReplyDeleteQuilts and wind are a frustrating combination. Your quilt turned out lovely. Thanks for sharing it with Oh Scrap!
ReplyDeleteLots of fun with those pics... and a lovely quilt finish too!
