Sunday Quilt Inspiration: MATH SHAPES

As I was looking at quilts in the Monroe quilt show yesterday, I realized that some of my favorites would require lots of math. This is because they use typical math shapes. Since I'm always looking for ideas for quilt inspiration, I added math shapes to the list. In desperate times, I can go right to the list.

I'm not really desperate tonight, but I want to pursue the idea of using math shapes in quilting. So let's start by taking a look at how they're used in everyday items.

Quilt Show Saturday in Monroe

We got moving early this morning because we had a two and a half hour drive to Monroe. Of course, I wanted a few hours at the show and Rich had planned to take two of the grands to Duck Commander to see where Duck Dynasty is recorded.

The day was long but especially fun since I got to meet my bloggy friend, Marty of Marty's Fiber Musings, who walked me around, introduced me to guild members, and showed me some amazing quilts.

I also met Ramona. The three of us participated in the Louisiana Traveling Quilt Bee. It was great to put the persons to the quilt blocks.

These are just a few of the photos that I took. It's getting very late and our day was long, so I'm saying good night. Hopefully, you'll come back tomorrow for Sunday Quilt Inspiration.

I'll also post many more pictures from the NLQGA Show later this week. Hope to see you then!

Pin It Weekly #142

I usually start this weekly post asking what are you pinning lately. I'm genuinely curious about that. I've found some interesting Pinterest boards from a few answers. A few answers were, well, different.
Ever had the itch to slap someone with the same fiish you were wearing? Well...now you can. God bless the USA:

Still it's an opportunity to learn about what's out there in the world. Even if I would prefer to avoid the different stuff.

So I'll ask again: What have you been pinning lately?
Sewing Quilt Squares...is that a...hand crank?!
I discovered an old photograph of a quilting bee. Just a random discovery that got me to thinking. What if I built a board around vintage photographs and quilts? I've included any vintage photograph so long as there was at least one quilt in it.
How to Make an American Quilt. I love this movie in so many ways. The quilt made for this movie is called, "Where Love Resides" and it is beyond beautiful.:
Goodness, in no time at all I had 100 pins!

Snappy Little Bag

Last weekend I took a few minutes to make a little bag. I'd read about them on Val's Quilting Studio. She has pictures of her many bags and a link to the tutorial. Please use that tutorial. I read it.

But you know my Mary ways. Read something, put it aside, lose it. Then attempt the something without benefit of the directions.

I'm not unhappy. Really, I quite like my little prototype. But Val's are sooo much cuter. Ah well, that's my life.

This little bag snaps shut, thanks to the metal slivers in the casing. Where does one get a metal sliver? One steals her husband's metal tape measure.

See that big, unwieldy, yellow tape measure? That's all it takes. One of these babies can make lots of bags, I'm fairly sure. Just remember to use the good old scissors when cutting the metal. (I had didn't have to say that, I know. I do feel guilty better, though.)

The stealing part is easier if one asks sweetly the day before her birthday. I got my skinny metal slivers, and he will (eventually) get a new big-man tape measure.

Isn't this bird fabric just the cutest? Check out the teabags and the watches.

Visit Val. Read the directions. Make a few of these.

Look at the space in there! I wonder if I even made it the right size. It's supposed to be 6" X 8". I didn't even measure anything! Just cut fabric, quilted it, sewed it together and added the casing, then measured the metal tape against the bag. I love  sewing that way. It's my absolutely favorite way to sew! (Except when it doesn't work.)
