It's been a while since I used a color for inspiration and it's possible that I've never used orange. Such a pretty, hot color that can be used with many other colors. It's one that was rarely mixed with anything other than its analogous colors: red and yellow. Today, anything goes, and I've seen orange mixed with just about any other color, so don't be shocked by some of the loud, wild colors that may appear.
Do you wonder about orange quilts? Well, there are a few....
Do you recognize this last one? It's a recent finish from AmandaJean at Crazy Mom Quilts. I hope today's inspiration inspires you to use a little orange in your current or next project! Look for inspiration everywhere!
I LOVE all your orange pictures! I'm feeling happier already. (And I was already happy before I read it.) Warmer too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great collection of orange photos. Love the cheddar Bear Paws and always love pinwheels.
ReplyDeleteSuch a happy colour :) I am trying to use more orange and yellow in my quilts, they make me smile!
ReplyDeleteAren't those oranges gorgeous! You're right Elaine; it is a happy color. I'm pleased to have made your days a bit brighter, Nancy. I was psyched to see the Jacob's Ladder quilt on your blog. I've been wanting to make a modern version of one for a while now. Of course, there are so many other projects to get in the way. Ann, I hope you come back soon. Sunday Quilt Inspiration has become a regular thing for me. It's amazing how many people send (or leave) notes saying they enjoy the pictures.
ReplyDeleteOrange is my top favorite color - sunny, warm, happy. It is the color of cramsicles, spicy curries, and fat salmon steaks. Thank you for the inspiration, Mary!
ReplyDeleteLove orange! What gorgeous pics, all of them, although the bird is my favorite.
ReplyDeleteI certainly did not expect orange to be such a hit, but I am pleasantly surprised. Especially since I've realized how much I also like the color.
ReplyDeletePreeti, I hadn't really thought about all the orange foods we have, but you definitely got me thinking about them. And you didn't even mention one of my favorites: citrus.
Jenclair, I agree that the pictures are gorgeous. If only they were mine! If only I could take a few pictures like these. I could not resist that sweet little bird!
Now that I've been thinking of citrus, I thought some of you might like one of my favorite citrus dishes.
ReplyDeleteLiquored Orange Salad
Peel and slice six oranges; put in a glass serving bowl. In a separate bowl mix 1/2 cup sugar with 1/2 cup of your favorite liquor (we like cognac and rum) until the sugar dissolves. Pour over oranges and toss. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate. In a few hours you'll have the best citrus salad. I like to prepare my salad the day before serving to give the oranges plenty of time to marinate and absorb the liquor.
Can also be used to marinate chicken or fish.
Substitute two oranges with lemon or lime for a tangy alternative.
