I really love this little quilt. It's big for a baby quilt at 50" square, but it's perfect.
That crazy orange, which I got at Hancock Fabric, was really, really cheap. I don't know how cheap, but I assure you I would not have bought it for anything close to regular price. It is definitely not in my comfort colors. However, ...
When I decided to join in the QAL, I also decided to do one thing that I would normally not do. Just one thing. The crazy orange became that one thing. Believe me, it was enough. I almost chickened out.
I'm so very glad that I didn't.
I was supposed to take the quilt outside for a photo shoot, but dang, it's hot! I didn't make it. I died right outside the door. Seriously. Died. Didn't even make a second step. The thing that saved me is that I was holding on to the doorknob. I managed, in my weakened state, to drag my body to the slit of cool air escaping through the crack. You can't know how delicious a sliver of chilled oxygen is until you've died in Louisiana in July.
I was forced to wait until I could wrangle someone into helping. The photo shoot was delayed for the wedding of Icy and Trin Penguin. They were married right in our living room on the coffee table. Marley was the maid of honor and wore her favorite night gown (gown being the operative word). After the lovely couple was pronounced husband and wife, they kissed and danced. Icy tossed his hat and Trin threw her scarf. Then they posed for pictures.

I love your quilt! I can't believe that the orange was out of your comfort zone, you worked it very well. It's great when you find a bargain piece of fabric, really not knowing what you're going to do with it and then finding the perfect pattern for it. I love when this happens. It looks like it's going to be a very popular quilt; already commissioned for a wedding ceremony.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. I think the orange works very well. I may need to challenge myself to get out of my comfort zone.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful job. And you know what? I make my 'baby' quilts Big because, you know, babies grow!
ReplyDeleteThanks all. That orange scared me a bit, but I worked through it somehow. Now I love the quilt and might even try more of those "scary" colors. Thanks for the encouragement!
ReplyDeleteGreat finish. The orange works very well with your other colors; I think the more we use those unfamiliar shades the more we understand what works with them and feel comfortable adding them into our quilts.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the linky list, Mary. 70!?! How did you find them all?
ReplyDeleteBernie
Kaja, I completely agree with you, but I'll admit that it takes a bit of courage sometimes!
ReplyDeleteBernie, you are quite welcome for the list. I've been working on this list for a couple of years, adding to it anytime I run across a linky party. Recently I've been trying to figure out how best to organize it. Let's just say it's a work in progress.
I think that orange works perfectly in this quilt. It's always good to do something outside your comfort zone. Winter here in New Zelaand, would love some summer sun and heat.
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking to Sew, Stitch, Snap, Share
The orange adds just the right amount of pizzaz!!! It is a lovely quilt.
