This time... LINES

Remember my pictures for inspiration post from last week? Well, I guess I really like the concept, because I took another walk, this time on the search for lines.

Trees have always been a big deal to me. I'm not sure just what it is exactly, their grandeur, their ability to clean the air, their home site capabilities, their colors and beauty. If you've ever seen the changing colors of the leaves in fall, or fledgling bluebirds following the mama from branch to branch, or Spanish moss dripping in the fog, you'd get it.

So anyway, here are my lines. We have a few trees in our yard, so I thought I'd capture a few pictures of the lines that trees create.

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Columns

  


Back when I taught Fine Arts Survey at Bunkie High, I studied enough architecture to be able to know the columns of ancient Rome and Greece. When I was pinning earlier in the week, I discovered these drawings. Of course, I had to add them to my "architecture buildings construction edifice structure" board.

Here's the thing: now I love them for a different reason. Oh sure, the architecture is stunning, but the lines, feathers, and scrolls are all motifs that I love to include in my quilting. Studying these drawings may be helpful in preparing for my next quilt.


Strangely, I didn't see the connection back then, but now it's quite obvious. 

The quilts I'm showing aren't about the curvy quilting, they are more about the straight lines and columns. When you search for column quilts on Pinterest, the responses tend to be more about the piecing, so that's what we've got.

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: graphic lines

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: L I N E S

I've found that I've been drawn to lines lately. I've played with some ideas of using lines in blocks. It's a work in progress, of course, but I'm hoping this quilt inspiration will help me to visualize what's in my head just a little better.

Quilts with lines? Well, yeah! These are mostly modern quilts, but the lines are the most important thing to me right now. 

Since I've started this latest interest/infatuation, I've noticed lines in a huge variety of places: farm buildings, power line structures and towers, houses and buildings, fireplaces, kitchens and so on.
