ROAR! The Dinosaur ~~ a finish!

"ROAR! The Dinosaur" is a recent finish that I have not written about because, frankly, it's been too hot to go outside for more than a few minutes. I won't even attempt to describe the mosquito problems. Let's just say I'm thrilled to have cooler weather. It's amazing that temperatures in the 80s is miserably hot in May, but in September the 80s are remarkably cool.

So back to "ROAR!" It's the little quilt that I cut out and sewed up at the Cotton Quilters sew day last month. I was able to finish the top and loaded it on the long arm the following day. It waited on me for a while, but the thing about having a quilt loaded is that I am committed to that quilt before working on another. It's a sure way of getting a particular top quilted.

There's not much to say about this little quilt. It's simple but cute and definitely for a little boy. I had enough of the dinosaur fabric to use for backing and almost enough (but not quite) for binding. I used a solid brown in one of the corners to "stretch" the binding. It works and so far no one has noticed unless I point it out.

I actually have a couple of other finishes to show you. I just let them pile up and today hung each one on the line to get some photos.

CQG meeting

I almost missed the window of posting about our August Cotton Quilters' Guild meeting. There will be another meeting in just a few days. In addition to having our meeting, this month we held a sew day which, I am happy to report, was a great success. But I'm getting ahead of myself.

President Maggie

Treasurer Irma and Secretary Mary C.

 social distancing and masks

Some of the blocks for our current BOM, which I have yet to begin. Oh dear me! I've decided to finish my current BOM (Sugaridoo) before beginning another. Hmm, maybe not the best idea, but it's decided. Now for a really cool show and tell. Everyone has been busy. It must be this quarantine business.

And two more items, a set of bags that Sheila made. I love how professional they look. She used cork on the bottom one which really gives it a good structure.

And lastly, also from Sheila, a felt quiet book about "The Three Little Pigs." This is the cutest little book you can imagine. There are several pieces that are separate from the book so that the reader can play by moving the pigs, the wolf, the building materials, etc. around. I think there's even a pot to put on the fire in the brick house. She explain how she makes them and that she makes several every time she builds a new house. I was really impressed!

July Cotton Quilters' Meeting

By the time you read this it will have been a week since the Cotton Quilters met in Mrs. Priscilla's home. The rain was pouring out of buckets, so we were forced inside. That was wonderful, because Mrs. Priscilla has a beautiful sewing room and lots of chairs. She's sort of obsessed with making pillows and recovering chairs. So we easily got comfortable.

The meeting went quickly; then Pam gave a quick presentation on the next BOM block. This picture shows two versions of her block. There are many more. Not that I'm keeping up with the BOM. Apparently I can't handle two at a time and Sugaridoo is well underway.

I gave a demo on thread painting. That didn't go very well. Everyone listened while I showed a few quilts and talked about my process but, when I sat down to demonstrate, they sort of did their own thing. Oh, a few people watched and even asked a question or two. But honestly, I was just a little disappointed. Except that I had decided to work on a postcard to send to my sister, Laura. It's a little thing, but even little things can raise spirits.

These pictures are from our show and share, which took place over a sofa, so my usually bad pictures are even worse. Sorry about that. Try standing on your toes, reaching over a shoulder, and snapping a picture. Oh, let's not forget that everyone holding the quilt is moving in a different direction. It's insane but fun and funny and I wouldn't miss it! Don't you love show and share at your guild meetings?

Mrs. Mary Coco's two happy snowman quilts. Each showman/woman has the tools and dress of his/her trade.

The front (above) and back (below) of Mrs. Priscilla's latest quilt.  She used left over blocks and pieces of the border to create what could be a reversible quilt.

And finally Ingrid is working on this pretty pink and brown project. She pieces and quilts everything by hand. You should see the tiny stitches!
