Pin It Weekly # 330

CHRISTIAN HETZEL

The weather has been quite blue/blah and gray/icky since the hurricane. We absolutely can't trust the sky. However, the temperatures make up for that. We absolutely CAN trust the temps.

Hand Painted Oil Painting Abstract Indigo Wall with Stretched Frame 7 Wall Arts® – CAD $ 119.53

So I've been feeling a little gray and blah. I did load a quilt top on the long-arm and I've gotten in the groove. I had forgotten I had this top. It was in the bin waiting a turn. Apparently, there's no rhyme or reason to taking turns in my world. This is neither the oldest or the newest in the bin. So...

But enough of my gray/blah life. How about looking at a few more of these abstract pieces that I pinned while looking for inspiration to use up some scraps. How do they multiply so quickly?

Explore our site for even more relevant information on "abstract artists famous". It is actually a great place to get more information.

Postcards for ...

At our last meeting the BRMQG folks talked about making quilt postcards. Maybe they are fabric postcards. Either way, I enjoyed the presentation. There was a lot going on, especially since we passed around a stack of, oh, 50ish.

They were meant to be inspiration. I supposed they were, because the very next day I made these two. They will eventually be mailed (yes, postal service, if you please) to the little granddaughters in Rayne. I have no doubt they will be a hit as anything that arrives through the mail and meant for either one of them is a grand affair.

Note on the red one that I played with one stitch on my machine. I chose that particular stitch because I'd read it is supposed to look somewhat like hand quilting. I played with this stitch by making a change every time a started a new seam. Mostly I increased the length and decreased the width. Nevertheless, I enjoyed the play and seeing the changes in one stitch. After enough of that I drew two lines with two stitches I haven't seen stitched out.

I love the idea of these! They are quick, fun little projects that allow for play, creativity, and practice. The first one I made is the bird card. You can easily see what I did--things I've done before. I figured I'd start easy. I figure the girls will drag them around for a day or so, stick them on a bulletin board in their "classroom" and eventually lose them. It's quite alright.

Have you made fabric postcards? If so, please leave a link in the comments. I'd love to see them!

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: S K E W E D

Pallet Art Natural Shell Skewed Heart Wall Hanging Rustic Shabby Chic Seaglass Sharksteeth Nautical Seashore by maliakalikina: Skewed--meaning off center, wonky, an unusual state, unbalanced.

Modern quilters love skewed things. Off center objects, uneven designs, crooked lines. I tend to visit their camp and hang out there. So I figured it's time to deal with this idea. It's an interesting concept and one that makes quilting a bit easier.

Well, except that you still have to apply all of the elements of design to your now-skewed quilt design.

Classic seaside stripes, slightly skewed and gussied up with a scarf collar. By Sparrow.:

Types of triangles, 6th grade math, math, 6th grade math anchor charts, triangles, acute, equilateral, right triangle, isosceles triangle, obtuse triangle, scalene triangle, congruent, angles, triangles anchor chart: There's this wall poster from a math classroom.

Don't let the pretty designs fool you...it's still math! But somehow I get that the triangles are skewed, except for the equalateral triangle.

So if I mention modern quilts, should I pin some modern quilts?

I need to come back and look at these again.  I want to go to the studio and play.  Of course, it's much too late for that, so I'll dream of modern fabric art--a little fabric, a little thread, maybe some oil paints--I can see it already!  Can you?
