Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Stacked Quilts

I have a board, titled "Stacked Quilts," which is I created for pinning the myriad ways that people have found to display and store their quilt collections. Trunks, chairs, armoires, cabinets, baskets, quilt hangers, ladders and many more. Here are a few interesting ones.

love black & white quilts - a reference to vintage aesthetics while the simple color palette allows them to fit in seamlessly with modern piecesLove

Adore this idea for storing and displaying quilts - where can I get one? :) #whimziequiltz

Don't these pictures of quilts piled and stacked and displayed give you the urge to go make a quilt? What's your favorite way to store or display your quilts?

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Chinese coins

Antique: Coin #FreeShipping antique Folk Ancient Chinese Dynasty Bronze Wealth Tong He Yuan Bao Copper Money Coin BiA couple of years ago AHIQ held a challenge to make Chinese coin quilts. Ann and Kaja made some gorgeous quilts; in fact, Ann made several. Today I ran across a couple of familiar-looking quilts on Pinterest. You probably guessed it. Two of their quilts! I'm not certain that they should be on Pinterest, but there they were.

Chinese Coin, a Feng Shui suggestion for AbundanceDa Ding Tong Bao bronze 1 cash coin cast in 1188 AD during the Da Ding reign (1161-1189 AD) of Emperor Shi Zong 1161-1189 AD, of the Jin Dynasty, S-1085. The S-1086 variety has the Chinese character 'Shen' of the reverse top side of the coin.

Since I was searching for an inspiration for today, I got straight to it. Here are both of those and several more.

Pin It Weekly #244

Today I discovered this quilt block that I really like. It doesn't look so difficult, and now that I've realized how much I like row quilts, I have been adding blocks to my "quilt, blocks" board.

Of course, I've run across a few more quilts to pin. I'm trying to get to that 8,000 mark, but it's slow going. Milly does not like to be ignored! So, I have to stay off of the computer. I tend to tune out everything around me, including Miss Priss.

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Wedding Rings

This engagement ring, which has 103,900 saves on Pinterest, is officially the site's most popular. It has a rose gold band and was custom-designed by its owner, Sylvia BilloneI've had reason to think about wedding rings lately. A friend's daughter recently married. Someone else recently became engaged. We wonder why a particular couple has yet to make the big announcement. You know, the stuff of small towns: everyone's business is everyone's business. (I just thought of that little truism.)  Especially weddings and engagements and such.

Wedding rings come to mind at this time of the year and it occurred to me that we should look at how wedding rings have inspired quilts. Ahh, we must remedy this with a few wedding rings...

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: TURQUOISE

Image result for turquoise green
(Like my brain can differentiate this beautiful mess)
Do you find it difficult distinguishing between those blue-green colors that we call turquoise, teal, and aqua? I do. It seems that every time I name a color in this family, my artist friend reminds me that it's actually something else.

The problem is not being corrected, it's remembering which is which even after the many, many reminders. Kind of like recognizing a face but not being able to put a name to it. Guess what? Google knows the difference! Of course, right.

Not only did I find an explanation, I found this paint chip photo. The definition may help: aqua-blue water; turquoise-light blue with some greenish; teal-dark blue-green.

I want a book stack like this! - Oooh! 2 of my favorite things: books and the color turquoiseI really need a mnemonic for this sort of memory to stick, so I'm going with a crazy way to remember. aqua is water blue (no brainer); turquoise (light blue with some greenish) is a long word with a long definition; teal a four-letter word has a four-letter definition (dark). I know, it's not the best, but it may help.
ocean wave.... More

Notice that Pinterest doesn't distinguish among the colors. If you search aqua, teal, or turquoise, you'll get all three, so maybe the mnemonic may be of use after all.

Some of the quilts here have all three colors from this family, but I'm including them because photographs can appear differently. Using the colors as they appear on your device, try to distinguish between them. Did I get it right...are there more quilts with turquoise?
