Meeting Christmas

I can't believe that I'm posting two days in a row.  It's getting more and more difficult to get to all the things I need to do.  


Today alone we went to mass, cooked lunch for the kids and grands and visited for a while.   Then I went into the studio to work on Josh's quilt, which is done, done and finished!  Yay!


Then I started on Audrey's quilt....the last one for my sister Angie.  And guess what I managed--the top is complete. 

I admit that I cheated a bit......it's almost a whole cloth quilt.  I say almost because I had to piece it.  


Audrey saw the fabric I had planned, which is this plaid from mom's stash and loved it.  "It's awesome, Aunt Mary!" were her exact words.  After we talked a bit--she told me to put her name on the quilt--I decided that I'd use the plaid and applique her name and some funky flowers.  This is one easy quilt.  The hardest part was creating the letters for her name.  

I decided to use the freezer paper method--drawing out the letters on the dull side of the paper.  After adhering fusible web to the fabric wrong side, press the waxy side of the freezer paper to the right side of the fabric.  


Cut out the letters on the lines and remove the papers.  Then place the letters onto the plaid fabric and press.


I used my Accuquilt Studio flower petals die and made as many petals as possible from one strip of fusible web.  Turns out that's 10 petals or two flowers.  


While I was placing and pressing the flowers on the quilt top, Richard was hanging new curtains in the studio.  We finally found some that I like last night while shopping.  

They are simple brown drapes that are rather thin, but I wanted them to be just heavy enough to block out the view from outside.  They have the extra large grommets across the top so that I can easily open and close them.  


The old curtains, which I kept, were hung on the two smaller windows which have the air conditioners.  They are Roman shade-type drapes that are insulated, so they can be pulled up to expose the AC or let down to cover it. 


I'll get back to Audrey's quilt tomorrow, but for tonight I needed to wrap a few gifts, and get ready for school in the morning.  All of the gifts that will go to the in-laws are wrapped and put aside for Friday.  Homework's done, and I'm down for the evening.  Here's wishing you a wonderful, safe Christmas.

Another one done!

I finished Adrienne's ballerina quilt this afternoon. This despite not getting to work on it at all yesterday. 

I took these photos in the back yard in some of the most beautiful fall weather.  

 I sure hope she enjoys it.

Tumblers for the turkey

The quilts I've been working on lately are for my great nephews.  Since their mom posted photos on Facebook, I don't feel too guilty about posting one here.  She titled the photos of Carson, "My little turkey growing up."  That's how I got my title.  :-)  


The photo of Carson and Seth on the left is from her Facebook.  Aren't they is just adorable and fun? 


Some of the fabrics on the quilts are from my mom's stash.  Before her death in November she gave me many of the fabrics that she had; later, my dad asked me to help clean the room where she kept her sewing.  He didn't care what happened to some of the stuff just as long as we cleaned.  I couldn't toss all that fabric and the notions, patterns, etc.  Eventually almost all of it found its way to my studio.  

Seth's Quilt 

When my sister, Angie, found out that I have some of mom's fabrics, she asked me to make a quilt for each of her grandchildren.  We decided that we want to save a few yards in case other sisters decide to do the same.  So some of the fabric is still boxed up, but the rest is quite happy blending in with my stash.  Angie decided that the quilts should be twin size since her grandchildren are no longer in baby beds.

I finished Seth's quilt last week and posted a quick note about it here.  Today I finished up Carson's quilt and thought you might like to see photos of the two boys' quilts.  One week on Carson's quilt is a new record for me.  Those tumblers are just so easy and fast!  Cutting them on the Studio cutter really helps to speed things along.  Imagine, ten tumblers in about two minutes, including getting the fabric ready for the die.   Thank you, Accuquilt!   I'll be using it again for the other quilts for Angie's grandchildren.

On the label I noted that some of the fabrics were in mom's stash and sewed a couple of the fabrics to the label so that they will know which fabrics came from Grandma.

Do you suppose that two little boys who will likely not remember their great-grandmother will grow up to appreciate quilts made with her fabric?  What do you suppose their mom, who was very close to her grandmother, will say?  I just hope she allows them to play and love the quilts the way grandma would have liked?  She can still care for them and have the quilts when they are grown men, don't you think?
