Book Review: Sunday Morning Quilts

While we were gone, I managed to zip into a quilt store or two and finally found a copy of Sunday Morning Quilts by Amanda Jean Nyberg and Cheryl Arkison.  I've been looking for it for some time now, but I'm one of those people who really doesn't like to shop online.  I like to have the item in my hand when I make a purchase.

Sunday Morning Quilts: 16 Modern Scrap Projects - Sort, Store, and Use Every Last Bit of Your Treasured FabricsAnyway, the moment I picked up the book, I knew I'd get it.  I love the design and the fresh feel throughout the book.  Amanda Jean has a great blog, Crazy Mom Quilts, which I've followed since I read about her book.  Cheryl's blog, titled Dining Room Empire, is so named because she works and sews in her dining room.

Both authors contribute to Sunday Monday Quilts and I like their seamless writing.  It's difficult to tell which author wrote which sections.

Sunday Morning Quilts - Eco Pouch SetThe first section of the book covers the basics of keeping and organizing one's stash and scraps.  Then there's a section on basic quilting.  I'm not sure I agree on one small point about binding, but really?  It's nothing to whine about: I just happen to like my own method.

And then, finally, the projects!  Fun, easy, modern projects.  My favorite is "Green" which has inspired a new design from me.

If you're looking for a modern quilting book, Sunday Morning Quilts, may be just the one.  I highly recommend it.

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Amish Life

Having traveled through parts of Ohio, Pennsylvania, and upper New York state, Richard and I have had a few small encounters with some of the Amish people from the area.  Those encounters were mostly distant--the Amish are easily distinguished--and few words were exchanged, but having taught a bit about the Amish life, I could not help but be curious.

To that end I purchased and read two books written by Amish writers: Amish Houses and Barns, by Stephen Scott, and The Amish School,by Sara E. Fisher and Rachel K. Stahl.

Both are quite interesting but I'll tell you more about the books on another post.  Tonight's post is all about how to be inspired by the people of the Amish community.

Niagara Falls video

Here's a quick video of Niagara Falls that I took while we were there last week.  Enjoy while we visit with the kids.  Sunday Quilt Inspiration coming later today.

Hey! Welcome back!

I know, it's been forever.  My apologies again for not posting for the last two weeks.

Who knew that vacation would be such a whirlwind of activity and take me to places with NO internet access? Does the whole state of New York not have internet? I doubt it, but at no time did I have access.  Oh, I had the computer, but with no wi-fi, I'm hopeless.

But that's all behind us, now.  And boy do I have some fun things to tell you about!  Big surprises, too!  Come back for the next few days: I will (as promised) try to catch up some of the posts that I've missed.  Tomorrow's post will be Sunday Quilt Inspiration.  Monday we'll have a Modern Monday post. Then on Tuesday I'll tell you about Niagara Falls.

After that I'll write about the many other things that we did and saw.  Not that I want anyone to think I'm bragging....really, I'm not.  I just had a wonderful time and want to share some of the awesomely beautiful things we did and saw.

Apologies to all

My apologies for not posting lately. I'm having Internet issues. In fact I am typing this post using my phone but data is too expensive to do this daily. I promise to catch up once I'm back online. In the meantime happy quilting!

Pin It Weekly #107

So you know about the new camper.  The one that took months to choose.  That one.  I figured that since we're now in the throes of summer, and we are hoping to do some serious traveling, that I might begin a board of state and national parks.  Oh my, there are a few!
Watkins Glen State Park, New York. Within two miles, the glen's stream descends 400 feet past 200-foot cliffs, generating 19 waterfalls along its course.

I've had to narrow my search a bit.  I'm into waterfalls, so here are waterfalls in the good ole USA.  Enjoy!

Camping anyone?

Coachmen Shasta Travel Trailer - N610553Richard and I bought a camper recently.  After looking for months and going to several camper sales lots and one camper show, we finally made a decision.  I was okay with the first small one that we saw.  "This is it," I told him.  He insisted that we look more.

A month later, "I'm done," I said.  But he wanted to look in another town nearby.

"I'm not going back," I fussed.  So he started going alone.  He found three he liked but he couldn't make the decision.  I had to look at the campers again.

"Which is the smallest one?" I asked, then "Which is the cheapest one?"  The answers were the same.

Keystone Bullet Travel Trailer - T422311"What's the problem? Why didn't you buy it?"  He wanted my approval, apparently.  I looked.  I fell in love.  I said to buy it.  He didn't.  He needed another day.  Thank goodness the sales guy said someone else was interested.  I think that did it.

The ONE a 19 ft. Jay Flight
Finally, we made a decision.  It wasn't the first one I saw.  It's much, much smaller.  This one has a queen size bed, but it's in a space that has no floor.  We'll climb in the bed from one corner, I took the comforter out and put in some of my quilts, which brighten the 'bedroom' quite a bit.

The rest of the camper is bright and airy because the walls are off-white and there are windows everywhere.  That was my one request--lots of windows.

So there we are.  The new camper.  There's a surprising amount of storage and a nice refrigerator.  No counters in the kitchenette (I mean, really, could we call this a real kitchen?)

It has everything, even a microwave.  There is just no counter space.  Of course, I'm not going to be cooking for company.  And we aren't going to do much more than sandwiches.  I want to save some of my time for fun!

Now on to the tough decision: where shall we go?  How long do you think it will take us to decide?
