How about getting to the CQG meeting's Show and Share before the week is out? A miracle from Mary! I'm actually quite proud of myself. The photos below are quilts, quilt tops, and charity quilts, with the exception of my own shares. I'll tell you about those later. Some things need finishing. 

 All of the following are WIPs to be sold online via the Cotton Quilters Guild Facebook page. So are tops we worked on during our Sew Day two weeks ago.  Did you know that you can hover over the picture and the caption appears? Yes, the magic of technology!

 And that's about all I have of the meeting. No need to bore you with the details of minutes, etc. Right?

Sunday Quilt Inspiration: Coffee and Tea

 

 Here in Louisiana, we are all about hot coffee and ice tea. Community Coffee is the ONLY one we drink here in Avoyelles Parish--it's a Louisiana product, after all. 

However, there are others. Cafe du Monde, for example from the famous NOLA French Quarter market. And then Mello Joy coffee which you can easily find in the Lafayette area. 

As far as tea goes, there's only one that's passable in the Marcotte clan--Lipton. It has to be sweet, ice cold and served with a real glass (made of glass as opposed to plastic) filled with ice. Yeah, it's hot here. We use, drink and eat ice all summer long. 

Now don't be fooled by these pretty little cups, teapots and coffee pots. Not one person I know pours coffee into a fancy pot or demi tasse cup. It's the electric pot and a big mug for us, cher! But they make for pretty quilts don't they?

All Manner of Little Things

Hi everyone! I have been taking pictures and thinking, "Oh this is something to blog about." But you know what happens? I get busy with other stuff and by the time I get on the computer, I'm just not into it. So the pictures get lost in the shuffle. And all the little things become distant memories. Not today! Instead here are some little things, little happenings, and little news bits.

Let's start with this stinker. Doesn't she look just so sad? I was sitting at the table doing paperwork and heard a whimper of a cry. Little Little, our Maltese puppy, had poked her nose through the gate and gave me these puppy dog eyes. What a trickster!

A postcard I made for my sister. She received it Tuesday, which was the day she was expecting news about how the chemo is working. It's good news for now! Next step, gain some strength for a bone marrow transplant later this year.

A tiny hummingbird feather I found on one of the feeders. So sweet!

Richard made this bookshelf for a friend who will have a booth at a local artist market / flea market. The pictures on the right are the original shelves. The ones on the left are of the same shelves painted. She and I are going to "share" the cabinet. Her things will be on the shelves, my things will hang on the back. She wanted an aged look that would work into her farmhouse eclectic vibe. I love the look of beaded board. We both got what we want. Ahh, the joys of a handy husband!

She has the booth with the three pieces in it. I'm on the side of her behind the book shelf. 

I recently got in a small order of titanium coated needles from Superior Threads. I've never used these super strong needles, but they are supposed to last much longer than regular ones. I just like the idea of putting a needle in and going to town for as long as possible. Maybe I should put a sticky note on the machine to remind myself to be extra careful. Generally, I break a needle, not wear it down. I'll try to remember to let you know how they work. I have only a few regular needles left, so these may go into the machine before the end of the year. I hope not, but you just never know, right?

I should have ordered thread at the same time. Now I'll have to pay shipping, again. Why do I make such silly, nonsensical decisions? It's a rhetorical question. I expect that no one can answer it.

And I think that wraps up all the little things. I have bigger news, but that is for another day. Have a great weekend!

It's a CQG Sew Day! Let's Play!

 The CQG had a sew day on the 17th of this month. Eight or ten people showed up with different projects to work on. I even brought Marley and "her" machine since she had the day off from school. 

Everyone thought it was just the best thing to see a young one enjoying sewing. She worked on a simple one patch baby quilt to donate to the CQG to be sold at our next quilt show. The plan is to have several small quilts, donated by members, that will sell and all profits will go to CQG to fund some of our educational programs.

As you can see from the photos, not everyone was working on donation quilts, but the three or four of us who did made some headway.   

Pin It Weekly # 330

The weather has been quite blue/blah and gray/icky since the hurricane. We absolutely can't trust the sky. However, the temperatures make up for that. We absolutely CAN trust the temps. 

So I've been feeling a little gray and blah. I did load a quilt top on the long-arm and I've gotten in the groove. I had forgotten I had this top. It was in the bin waiting a turn. Apparently, there's no rhyme or reason to taking turns in my world. This is neither the oldest or the newest in the bin. So... 

But enough of my gray/blah life. How about looking at a few more of these abstract pieces that I pinned while looking for inspiration to use up some scraps. How do they multiply so quickly?

Mrs. Mary Lee's quilts (finishes)

 I finished some customer quilts! These are quilt tops hand sewn by Mrs. Mary Lee, my mom's old neighbor. Her daughter asked me to long-arm them so they can all be finished and gifted to her children and grandchildren. And probably a few great-grandchildren. Here are pictures that one of the grandchildren took and texted to me so I'd have a record of some of my quilting motifs.
