Back to the birds...

Preeti's bird, that is. And now one from me. With which I am quite disappointed. They are sandwiched and machine stitched in-the-ditch around the birds' bodies to keep everything intact.

However, I have a plan. I'm not exactly sure how this will work, though. Obviously my vision is somewhat off, but there's still hope. Well, maybe not, but I'm not abandoning the birds quite yet.

The original, Preeti's beautiful red/blue on a silver background, inspired me to create a toned-down version. Generally, love birds have a bright, cheerful male and a duller, quiet female. Nature knows what she's about: the bright colors of the male attract females, and the female's dull colors help her to blend into the surrounding landscape.

But really, my female is much too dull and certainly blends into her gold landscape too much. She needs something. I'm hoping she wants some hand quilting. (Let's call it pretend sashiko for now.) I guess from here it's a matter of playing and letting the birds tell me what they want. While they're at it, they need to tell me whether they want to be a small wall quilt or a pillow. But we have time to make that decision.

I'd love any input you'd want to share. Just what do you suggest I do with this little bird? She and I really need some advice.

Oh Mary, the little bird only seems plain because she is not finished yet. I am sure some creative quilting in bright threads would perk her up just fine :-) I love how you are taking this idea and flying with it :-D

Thanks Preeti! I am flying with it! The more I think about it, the more I want to turn this piece into a pillow, but we'll see where it takes me. Thanks so much for the inspiration bird.

I like where you are going with this - I bet a bit of stitching sorts out your quiet bird.

Pretty birds. We feed the birds and I enjoy watching them at the feeder outside the window in my sewing room. Your blocks remind me of the bluejays.
