Cotton Quilters' Guild June 2020--finally a meeting!

Like everyone else, the members of the Cotton Quilters' Guild have been under quarantine since March. Our last meeting was in February. Then, in March we had our annual sewing room tour. It was wonderful yesterday to see all the happy smiles and the beautiful projects everyone's been working on.

Of course, we had a bit of business to take care of. We've decided that hiring a bus to go to the Gulf States show in Slidell would be too difficult at this point. Many of the people who had planned to help us fill the bus have dropped out. Also there's still no guarantee that the show will happen. What we decided is that we'll cancel the bus and, if possible, carpool. The money that we made on our show will help pay for gas for those who drive.

There were a few other items of business, but mostly we visited and talked and ate cake. And talked about quilts and families and the state of this pandemic. And we shared quilts and works in progress and blocks. In other words, it was what my daddy used to call "a coffee clutch." But without the coffee because this Louisiana summer is way too hot.  Especially after 1 o'clock.  Out-of-doors.

Sitting on Irma's lovely patio was our feeble attempt to social distance. It was quite feeble indeed.  But we managed and Mrs. Bertha even gave a great presentation for our block of the month project. It's the block in this quilt below, though I can't think of the name for anything right now. Do you remember the name? Please share, I'd really appreciate it!

Have a great week and stay safe. Here in the States we're experiencing the big three: a pandemic, riots, and a hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico. (Heading straight for Louisiana.)

Baton Rouge MQG ~~ March

As the coronavirus begins it's march through Louisiana, I've been thinking of several things. I have friends in every corner of the state, most of whom are my age or older, and it's a bad time to be 60+.

Most of those friends are quilters who live in the Baton Rouge area. I hope that all are well and I will get to see them at the next BRMQG meeting. If you are in the wake of COVID-19, please be safe. If you're lucky, as my family are, keep the world in your prayers.

These pictures are from our March meeting. Aren't my friends talented!

Stay safe, everyone!

Cotton Quilters' Guild January Meeting

The Cotton Quilters' Guild meets on the first Monday of each month.

Mrs. Mary showed us how she makes these little catch-all boxes.

Ingrid comes in with beautiful, traditional items every month.

Another stunner by Cleo.

Irma and Mary collect money, take notes, and other official duties. I'll admit, it was enjoyable to sit back and calmly be a member again.

Cotton Quilters' Guild November Meeting

It's November 2019 already and my presidency has come to an end. We'll meet one more time in December for our annual Christmas party, and that's it. We elected new officers who will take over in January. It's been fun and a barrel of laughs but also time consuming. I'll appreciate just showing up at meetings with my quilts.
Pam showed the goodies she bought at
Quilt Fest in Houston. There were several things
along with the Farm Girl Vintage 2 book and fabric.
Mostly I'll try to not run things! That's me. Always with an opinion and ready to help. The problem is that sometimes other folks don't want help. I'll have to be mindful of that. Remind me at times, will you please?

So this meeting was easy. Mostly. We bullied elected officers. I brought up a subject with an ulterior motive that had a great idea behind it. We quickly lost sight of the subject at hand. I kinda  definitely blew that. Everything got tabled, and Mrs. Mary saved me with her fabulous presentation on curved piecing. Bless her heart, she saves me every time. Finally show and tell came up.

Mrs. Priscilla loves to recycle and
made this pillow from a former skirt.

Smittie showed this beautiful leaf panel.
Check out her quilting on the back!

Mrs. Mary had a couple of "Turning Twenty" quilts that she just finished. Can you believe the difference two colorways make?

I showed two small quilts, one so freshly off the machine that it's not even trimmed and bound. Hopefully you'll see that one finished in a few days. The other one, well, I'm almost certain that I've taken a few pictures of it, but I can't find even one. Hmm. I wonder if I've taken any? Have you seen pics of little blue and white quilt recently? It's part of the MQG rally block study.

BRMQG October Meeting

So this month I had a Baton Rouge guild meeting, but the Cotton Quilters took the month off. We did just have the show.

But BRMQG has some things happening. Here are some Show and Share pictures. Can you tell this is the modern guild?

Cotton Quilters' September meeting (in pictures)

I can't believe that the month is almost over and I still haven't mentioned the Cotton Quilters meeting. Here are a few pictures, but I suppose that there's little to tell because we spent our time discussing the upcoming show. At this point in time, that's only a week away!

Cotton Quilters Guild June Meeting

Ginni is serious about getting caught up with her
BOM blocks. I think she had more, I just missed them.
Monday was the big day. I have two guild meetings on Monday. It's a day of great fun but also kind of tiring. But it's only once a month and I do get to talk and think and see quilts. All. Day. Long! Aren't ya just a little jealous?

Don't get fooled.
When Grandmay babysits, she also puts you to work.
Some of us are "keeping up" with the program.
Most of the meeting we discussed and made decisions about the upcoming quilt show. I'm pretty amazed at how much I was able to do. I tend to work in spurts. But when it happens, lots happen.

And then came Show and Tell. One of our members has a good friend from South Louisiana who was coming for a visit. So Helen asked her to bring a couple of antique quilts to Cottonport so she could share them with us. First she showed this interesting nine-patch quilt.

Charlene shares one of two antique quilts. What a great surpise!
Then she brought out this beautiful red Dresden. Oh my! What a beauty!

Some of our members also had things to share. These pieces do not belong to together (the center is already completed) but they are all from Cleo, who definitely has found her style.

I should have taken more photos, but it's difficult to take pics and keep things moving. Mostly I do the latter. It's always a reminder of being in a classroom of teenagers. These ladies have spunk and get excited about quilts!
