Start with blue and ask questions

If you've read my post from Sunday or Monday, you know that I have been sick. I still don't know what that crud could have been, but thank goodness, it's gone. Just in time to help Rory and Meggan with the girls while she recovers from a procedure.

However, I did manage to get into the studio for a little while on Tuesday and Wednesday before coming to Rayne.

A few days earlier, I visited Cynthia Brunz at Quilting is more fun than Housework... and saw her green quarter-square log cabin project for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge. I fell in love with the simplicity of the blocks and it uses lots of scraps.

We chatted via email. Cynthia was helpful and encouraging, (thanks for the advice, Cynthia); and I got going as soon as I felt well enough to stand. By that time, I remembered that I had an abandoned WIP with some blue strips already cut. I pulled those and jumped ahead an hour or so. Isn't it amazing how much time cutting fabric takes?

At the end of the day on Wednesday, I was almost at the flimsy stage. I need to choose a layout. However, it's a baby quilt and the blocks are large at 10", so there's not much wiggle room. These are my favorites:

Maybe I should call this The Question Quilt because I surely have asked many questions. Here's another. Keeping in mind that I can still move blocks, which do you prefer--the top layout or the bottom layout?

So sorry to hear you have not been well! I am glad you are feeling better. Your blocks really went together quickly. I like the top layout the best I think. Thanks for sharing with Oh Scrap!

I agree, Cynthia, it seems to have taken no time at all. It's a combination of things that worked. First, your blocks really inspired me and I got to it quickly before the inspiration fizzled. And second, those precut strips (for the unfinished WIP) let me move almost right to sewing.

Great use of your scraps!! I'm a fan of the top layout. Best of luck with the rest of the quilt making process!!

Top one for me too. You didn't waste any time once you were feeling better!

Ah, all the blues, my 'go to' colour, I love this! And the first layout gets my vote too!

I'm late to the party. You have probably already decided on your layout, and I am the lone wolf....I like the bottom layout better. Not sure why, it just pleases my eye.

Thanks, Judy, for your input. I really do appreciate it, but it's just a little too late. Linda, if the amount of scraps is any indication of of what I use often, then blue is my 'go to' also. I have no idea what is happening, but somehow it seems that there are more blue scraps than before! Joyful and Kaja, thanks! I am rolling right along now and hope to have a completed quilt in a day or so.

Good to see you feeling better and sewing. These blocks are great for scraps. i like both layouts, so no help at all.

Something so vibrant about those blues and the top arrangement is just a little more unique. What pretty scraps you have!
